How do women feel about the fact that many men feel that women are very materialistic ?

You know, on YA people ask questions about what women like in men and they guys always seem to come up with replies like ' a fat wallet ' or something similar. What do women think when they hear that view expressed.? Is it a true reflection of the female attitude toward men ? If it is not a true reflection how did these men get the idea that women were just interested in them for their money ? I mean the stated opinion of men and women seems so divergent on this point.
